Like many knitters, I’m fascinated by cables. I particularly like traditional aran sweater cables; the overall honeycomb cable that’s often worked into a wide centre panel on the front or back of the garment was my inspiration here. I wanted an oversized cardigan or coat, and thought that overall cables in a bulky yarn would [...]

I love me a good cardigan. This is a pretty good cardigan. As I mentioned before, I thought I was a genius for designing this cardigan, except that…I didn’t. But it was fun to make, especially with the cables on front and back to keep it interesting. The shawl collar was a feat, using almost [...]

I made an impulse buy the other day: Veronik Avery’s Fuse pattern from the latest Brooklyn Tweed publication. And then I made another impulse buy: the yarn to make it. Blackstone Tweed in Cranberry. Oh my gosh, I love red. Love love love. Strangely, I have nothing red in my wardrobe, I guess because I’ve [...]

Friends, it took me a year and a half of on-and-off knitting, but I have finally completed my Bianca cardigan. It doesn’t have buttons yet, but it was past time to get some photos, so C. helped me take a few in between rain showers. I love moss stitch edging. Although it’s hard to tell, [...]

I’ve finished the Featherweight Cardigan and have been wearing it a lot – it’s perfect for cool sunny weather. It’s knit in sweetgeorgia’s handpainted lace. It’s amazingly soft, and warm considering it’s made from only two 50g skeins. I like this pattern much better than Hanna Fettig’s other cardigan, Whisper, which has weird shaping around [...]

An update on my remarkably slow progress on the beaded cardigan… This morning I washed and blocked the two front pieces. Two things were immediately apparent: I misread the neck shaping instructions, adding about 15 extra rows. Both sides. Oh well, it could be a lot worse, right? I really need to learn how to [...]
